Ways in Which to Make Pet Grooming a Fun Experience- By: Damian Cross

Description : A large number of pet owners repel the idea of grooming their pet because of bad past experiences and the strain it puts on the relationship with their pet. Either their pet has behavior problems, acts inappropriately during grooming, or simply the person doesn’t have a clue on how to go about it. There, in many cases the pet owner is left looking for a professional groomer who will take on the task of grooming their pet, and relieving them of this duty for a fee. Some of these pet owners set themselves up for a surprise, when they come back to pick up their pet and the results fail to meet their expectations. Little details like the nails not being cut to the desired length, or the pet’s coat not being brushed properly are sure ingredients for disillusionment.

The truth of the matter is, some pets just hate grooming, and want nothing to do with it. Dogs in general do not fear water, in fact they look forward to rolling over puddles and mud slides. However, they seem to develop an unexplained uneasiness when their owner rolls out the hose in the yard. Felines on the other hand, love it when their owner strokes their hair, it is a form of praise for them. However, these same cats turn into wild lynx when approached with a brush for grooming.

One thing that pet owners need to understand is that if they have a hard time grooming their pet at home, the groomer where they take their pet is likely to have a similar experience. Pet groomers are just that, fashion consultants for animals and not animal trainers or veterinarians. You cannot expect groomers to turn into trained animal handler as the moment requires. An exception would be to groom your pet at the veterinarian’s clinic under the supervision of the vet, even if this translates into a couple of pennies more.

One of the best things you can do in order to make grooming easier, is to start the grooming process when your pet is still young. It may be that little pet kittens and puppies make some fuzz when being groomed, but there are still small. Consider their size, and that they are a lot easier to handle than a couple of years later. In fact, at this age most of the difficulty in grooming is due to the fact they yjey are so happy you are spending time with them. Starting early will allow them to assimilate this activity in their daily life as part as quality time you spend together, more as if you where playing pet games than engaging your pet in hand to hand combat.

It is important to include the inspection of the ears in this early stage. Cleaning and examining your pet’s ears will not only provide proper hygiene, but make it easier on the veterinarian when the time comes for him to do this as well.

Even if young kittens and puppies do not require their nails to be trimmed. The pet owner could play a few pet games with the animal, grabbing and rubbing his feet, so as to get him used to it and pave the road for the future trimming activity.

Probably most important of all, is always to give your pet lots of praise when the grooming is done. Let him know he has done a good job and show your appreciation. Your attitude will be something your pet will look forward too, and will want to play pet games with you again.
